Chapter 19

He told me everything that I wanted to know about his past relationships. I was growing more comfortable with it. According to him, he had always been a gentleman, ending things the best way that he could so the woman would be able to move on quickly and without much trouble. He told me about his only human girlfriend, Lucy, the one that he met in Spain, the one he had thought he was in love with.

They were together for seven long years and he thought that she would be accommodating to his way of life. After all, at that time, she was beginning to show signs of aging when he was not. He thought that he could explain what he was to her and she would stay by his side. He wanted to be completely honest with her. He showed her one night what he was, but her reaction left a lot to be desired, she was beyond upset. She couldn’t believe that she had been with a demon. He told me that she told her whole town, and they went on a witch hunt to find and kill the Wolfe coven. They never found them, but Lucy was never the same.

Unfortunately, she ended up going crazy and killed herself. The blow pierced Lucas’s heart. Even as he was telling me the story, I could tell that he was very hurt by what had happened.

“Lucas, I already know what you are. I’m not running, and the witch hunt doesn’t start for another week or so, we have time.” I ruffled his hair, placing a kiss on the side of his mouth.

“That is exactly why I think that we will be ok, there are no secrets between us. You already know about us and you’re still here. You haven’t told anyone anything and you know what I can and cannot give to you. I know that a day may come when you need to leave me, and I can completely understand that, but I am just so happy that you have chosen to let me into a small portion of your life.”

I rolled my eyes to the gods, why did he think that I was going to be the one to leave him?

“What makes you so sure that I would be the one to leave?”

“Kate, I already told you that I cannot reproduce, and most women want children. I will understand if you want to start your life with a man that is more biologically compatible with you.”

“Lucas, I don’t want kids.”

“You say that now, but give it ten years and I am sure you will be singing a totally different tune.” He said, completely sure of himself, and I guess I had to let him think that. Or not.

“You want to bet on it?”

A twinkle sparkled in his eye as he asked, “What are we betting?”

“If I win you have to streak in front of three major sports events, whatever the sporting events are at that time.”

His eyes nearly bugged out of his head.
